I love a teen romcom despite my teens being far behind me! But this is truly terrible. I couldn't believe it was made in 2018! It's embarrassingly out of touch with an awful attitude to women and relationships. Early on in the film the female lead is groped at school and is told she is asking for it because of the length of her skirt. She then gets a detention as well as her attacker and the whole thing becomes a joke when he then puts on a short skirt to apologise! The main character is shown in her underwear three times in the first 30 mins and is completely objectified by male characters each time. The romantic interest (her best friend's brother) is possessive and controlling and this is made out to be romantic and a sign of how much he cares about her. The 'OMG' girls are one dimensional bitchy stereotypes and they are the only other females that get any screen time. It's just SO AWFUL.
Watch 'To All the Boys I Loved Before' or 'The Edge of Seventeen' instead for something a bit more progressive and with some emotional depth.
